澳大利亚艺术家Michael Downs以非线性的方式创作一系列各种形状的绘画作品，在全球已有很多场展示，展出地包括巴黎蓬皮杜中心和巴塞罗那当代文化艺术中心等。他在宋庄的工作室创作 “中国作品”：这个系列的形状绘画反映当代中国的活力，结合使用规整的欧几里得几何形体（此处代表官方认可的持续）和非线性的、混乱的形状（表现这个人口众多的民族在社会、物质和技术变革中释放出的不可预见的、不稳定的能量）。在苔画廊两个月驻地期间包括创作和展览，由10个部分组成的绘画/装置作品“昆明组曲”，将悬置于展墙，作品反映二十一世纪充满活力、复杂性和矛盾的都市。
Australian artist Michael Downs has exhibited his shaped and constructed paintings internationally in several hundred shows, including the Pompidou Centre, Paris and the Centro Di Cultura Contemporanea, Barcleona. Now working from a studio in Songzhuang Artists’ Village, Beijing, he has produced a long series of ‘China Works’; shaped paintings which reflect the Euclidean order and fractal Chaos, linearity and non-linearity and ‘rectangle-bursting’ energy of modern China. At Contemporary Yunnan, Michael Downs will be working as a resident artist for two months on a painting/installation called The Kunming Suite. Ten multi-part paintings will flow across the walls of the gallery, reflecting the dynamism, complexity and contradictions of the twenty-first century city.

苔画廊(Contemporary Yunnan)，一间在昆明从事当代艺术展示，推广，交流和收藏的空间。由策展人/艺术家刘丽芬于2011年创立。画廊专注于年轻的艺术家群体，致力于以地域性的文化背景和生活经验为基础的跨领域、跨地域的艺术合作。
＂苔＂即苔藓，是一片过滤层和細小世界的微丛林，又是舌苔，一块尝鲜地。＂苔画廊＂安逸于郁郁葱葱的小院，定期举办小剧场活动，商店出售艺术家设计师独立设计产品，还有美食厨房和咖啡。
About the Gallery
Contemporary Yunnan is a gallery dedicated to the exhibition and promotion of contemporary art, primarily of young artists living and working in China. Founded in 2011 by curator/artist Liu Lifen, the gallery aims to establish an international stage for art and communication across diverse fields and geographical areas. Our vision is to become the most professional, innovative local space for contemporary art practice in Yunnan.
The gallery is located in Kunming's new art district Jinding 1919 with a plant-filled yard, small shop where you can buy independent artist and designer creations and a cafe where you can enjoy drinks and light snacks.
